Bridge Builders is a group of members and friends of St. Andrew who are deeply rooted in Christian faith, seeking to answer God’s call to reconciliation, justice, and service for all. The group aspires to address racism and inequity through shared awareness, relationship, and commitment to action.
The Bridge Builders group meets regularly to discuss racial justice issues as they relate to Christian faith and plans events and activities to raise awareness about these concerns. Bridge Builders activities include: hosting guest speakers; organizing ‘field trips’ to places of significance in culture, history, and race relations; highlighting Black History Month through informational and resource displays; supporting Faith & Work Enterprises (FWE), a community resource center serving the Sandtown area of West Baltimore, through fundraisers and collection efforts to meet ongoing needs; studying God’s word and sharing candid conversation about racial issues. In May 2025, the Bridge Builders sponsored the first gathering of its kind in this region, a conference called “Stepping Forward: Pursuing Racial Justice in our Walk with Jesus.” It was an exciting event that included a compelling keynote, informative breakouts, a variety of resources and networking opportunities. Bridge Builders began meeting in 2020, first to participate in a Bible Study about racial justice, and eventually in an ongoing effort to work together to bring greater understanding and hope for a brighter future to our church and the larger community. In 2024, Bridge Builders began networking with individuals and groups from other churches and related organizations nearby and across the nation through Zoom. Bridge Builders gives thanks for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the perseverance of those involved so far, and invites everyone to join in the journey of discovery and sharing God’s love for all!
