Common Ground Online – Fall 2020

Common Ground will return this fall online via Zoom video conferencing on select Wednesday evenings, about twice a month.

Browse the topics below and sign up for all those that interest you.  After registering for one or more offerings, registrants will receive an email with a Zoom link that will allow participation in the session.  All sessions will begin promptly at 7:00 pm.

Please register NO LATER THAN TUESDAY in order to receive a Zoom invitation to join that Wednesday.  Zoom invitations will be emailed to all registrants on Wednesday morning for that evening’s event. If you signed up but don’t see your invitation, check your “Junk” or “Promotions” folder.  Questions? Contact Debbie Snyder at [email protected].

Wednesday, September 16 – Responding to Racial Injustice: Implicit Bias
Explore the concept of having unconsciously-held associations or biases about a social group, racial or ethnic group other than your own.  Get in touch with the ways in which we may express implicit bias without even realizing it, and use these insights for the sake of building and nurturing stronger relationships with all the people in your life and those you encounter in the future.  This session will include a look at the teachings of Jesus and an opportunity for small group discussion.

Wednesday, September 30 – Coffee with Pastor Mark
Let’s gather to catch up and enjoy some conversation and an evening devotion with Pastor Hricko, who may give you the chance to share your greatest blessing and greatest challenge of the past few months.  Bring coffee and dessert or your beverage of choice and let’s reconnect and share some great virtual fellowship!

Wednesday, October 14 – Ministry in a Pandemic: What’s Next?
Get a behind-the-scenes look at the process of transitioning to an online ministry and then to a hybrid ministry with both digital and in-person components.  Hear what church leaders are saying and get the results of a survey by Lifeway Research on “The Five Biggest Concerns Pastors Have” as the pandemic stretches on.  Share your ideas and think about which changes to your spiritual life and our ministry may seem temporary now but could become permanent fixtures in the future.

Wednesday, October 28 – “Good Grief” Bereavement Support
As the church prepares for its annual celebration of All Saints Day, those who have recently lost a loved one or are still grieving a loss from the past are invited to join Pastor Hricko for a time of listening, sharing, and support in the context of Christian community.  Let’s talk about what “good grief” looks like.  Also expect to learn more about the history of the Commemoration of All Saints and the spiritual importance of the observance today.

Wednesday, November 11 – Evening with the Psalms
The Psalms are filled with human emotion, written by people with many of the same personal and spiritual struggles we have today.  Come to learn about the Book of Psalms as we zero in on a few of them, talk about our favorites, and gain some insights about how to read them and apply them to your life.  Let’s get together and spend an evening with the Psalms!
