The Cambridge English Dictionary defines the word “crib” as : 1) A child’s bed: 2) a home or place of residence (US slang); 3) a Christmas scene, crèche, model of people and animals present at the birth of Jesus (UK).
When you hear the word “crib” you may think of the cozy bed in which a baby sleeps in safety. In American slang, when a person is asked where they are, they might say “I’m in the crib,” meaning they’re at home. During the Advent/Christmas season, we remember that an animal’s feed box, known as a manger, was turned into a makeshift crib for the infant Jesus.
As we come to the end of a year filled with conflicts, threats to our safety, and changes in our way of life, our mid-week online Advent services will invite us to embrace the comfort and joy of God with us IN THE CRIB that includes our home, our church, and Bethlehem’s manger.
