The
Christian Atheist
-
As Christ-followers, we believe in God
- but do we surrender to Him daily, confident and empowered by
the promise of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives? This DVD
study by Pastor Craig Groeschel takes a hard-hitting look at how
faithful Christians often live without awareness and dependence
on the gift of guidance and provision Christ promises. No matter
how long you have been a believer, come to explore a deeper
relationship with the One who desires to be an active presence
in your life and, through you, to bring others closer to Him.
Led by Sandra
Poyner. (6 sessions, Jan 11-Feb 15)
Compassion in Action: Lutheran Social Services -
True
compassion involves commitment, enthusiasm, dedication, and hard
work! Come to experience the active mission of Lutheran Social
Services of the National Capital Area through a lively "tour"
that includes details of their work and powerful stories of
those who have been served. Led by Melissa Graves, CEO of LSS/NCA
and others. (1 session, Jan 11)
Passover to Communion
- Learn more about Passover, the Old Testament celebration meal
of God's deliverance, and how it points toward the New Testament
Sacrament of Holy Communion, the holy meal and commemoration of
God's promises fulfilled in Christ. A fitting way to prepare for
Ash Wednesday and the coming season of Lent! Led by Pastor Ken
Carlson. (3 sessions, Jan 18-Feb 1)
Looking at the Koran: A Christian Perspective
- As
Christ-followers living in today's diverse society, what should
we understand about Islam's Holy Book? How is it like the Bible
... and how is it different? Muslims believe the Koran was
dictated to the prophet Muhammad by the angel Gabriel. It is
only the length of the New Testament, yet one-fifth of the world
claims it as the complete revelation of God. Come for a
historical review of the Koran within the context of Muhammad's
life, and learn how it has influenced the beliefs and actions of
Muslims through the centuries. Led by St. Andrew member Ed
Kauffman, who has spent many years working in and studying
Islamic life and culture. (2 sessions, Feb 8 & 15) Faith Walk 101 Membership Information Seminar - What did Jesus say about being “members of the body” in the community of believers? What are the sacraments and why are they important? What does it mean to practice Christianity in the Lutheran tradition? Come to explore these and related questions in a small group setting where answers are found and friends are made! Open to those new to St. Andrew, as well as those looking to renew and refresh! Led by Pastor Hricko. (5 sessions, Jan 18-Feb 15)
